Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is the deliberate removal of body hair using the technology of laser. Hair generally grows all over the human body, some fine and barely noticeable, with other areas having thicker, more prominent hair. That thicker hair can often be in unwanted places or too excessive, laser hair removal is directed towards the removal or reduction of this hair.

The benefits of laser hair removal -

  • Reduction of ingrown hairs
  • Smoother skin
  • Not having to shave or wax
  • Less irritation to the skin
  • Permanent hair reduction
  • Reduces excessive hair growth ( PCOS)
  • Smaller pores & easy stress free body

The laser light targets only hair that are actively growing (anagen phase), therefore multiple treatments are necessary to treat all the hair as they are not all growing simultaneously. Different hair follicles will be in different hair growth stages at any one time. For this reason, it requires several sessions to ensure catching all of the hair in the anagen phase.

How long does laser hair removal last?

To date, there is no laser hair removal treatment that permanently removes unwanted hair. However, after each laser hair removal session, you will have a hair-free period and as your treatments progress, this period will last longer and longer. Once a course of treatment has finished, your hair-free period could last a number of years . Once this result is achieved, we recommend a yearly top-up treatment for maintenance.

Is laser hair removal suitable for my skin?

Lighter skin tones and darker hair pigment always works best with laser hair removal. Darker skin types may need a number of additional treatments for best results, compared to lighter skin types.

How do I prepare for treatment?

It is helpful if the area to be treated is shaved and free of creams, lotions or perfumes before you arrive for your appointment.

Also, we ask that you

  • do not use any fake tans or wash-off tans before treatment – your skin must be its natural colour
  • avoid using products such as retinoid or steroid creams on the area to be treated
  • tell us about any prescribed or non-prescribed medication you are taking.

How long does the treatment take?

For a small area, such as the face or underarms, one session will take around 15-20 minutes.

For medium-sized areas, such as bikini and half legs, the treatment will take around 30-40 minutes.

For large areas including full legs or full back, it will take about 1 to 1.5 hours.

Is there any downtime?

When having laser hair removal there is no downtime following the treatment, and you can return to your daily activities straight away.

Some people may experience a slight warmth or redness in the treated areas, but this is unusual and should disappear within a few hours.

Does the treatment hurt?

The feeling of the treatment is described to feel like a elastic band flick of heat on the skin and is very tolerable.
