Anti wrinkle injections are still the most popular non surgical anti ageing treatment for lines and wrinkles worldwide.

It has been used medically for many years to treat lines and wrinkles, excessive sweating, muscular problems including eyelid and facial spasms or 'tics', cerebral palsy, and torticollis (neck muscle spasm), and it has an excellent safety record.

Ageing is associated with the development of wrinkles and furrows on the face. These lines may develop as a result of weakened dermal collagen from sun exposure, gravity and smoking, and/or due to facial muscle action on the skin.

Anti wrinkle injections relax the muscles that cause these lines, so softening them and smoothing the overlying skin.

The typical areas to treat are 'Frown Lines' between the eyebrows, 'Crows Feet' smile lines, and horizontal forehead lines (worry lines).

Injection into all of these areas has shown to be very successful with excellent results lasting on average between 3-5 months.

Anti wrinkle injections are a purified protein which is used in small quantities for cosmetic purposes to relax muscles which cause unwanted lines or wrinkles It also treats areas of excessive sweating very successfully.

Decades of use in medical conditions have demonstrated its long term safety record, which should be reassuring to clients.

It is important that the person prescribing and administering these injections are experienced in its use, and that before and after treatment photos are taken.

At The Aesthetics and Laser Clinic we always complete a full medical consultation and allow enough time for any questions to be fully answered.

How long do anti wrinkle injections last, and how quickly does it start to take effect?

Anti wrinkle injections start to take effect usually within a few days, with full effect at two weeks.

Most clients have it repeated every 4 months, when the muscle function has started to return. It is usual to retreat when there is about 50% of the muscle activity back.

The effects will usually wear off completely by six to eight months and there is no evidence that it has any long term effect on the muscles that it was injected into.

However, by relaxing the muscles for period sof time, the inclination to use them is reduced, and this 're-education' effect is also helpful in the prevention of further lines or wrinkles.

The most common areas to have anti wrinkle injections are the 'Frown' lines (between the eyebrows), Forehead lines and 'Smile or laughter lines' (the outer part of the eyes).

This can give very pleasing results by relaxing muscles which cause the outer lips to downturn, the chin to pucker and to smooth necklace lines and vertical ridges on the neckline.
